New Article in Environmental Research Letters!
We would like to share our new research article in Environmental Research Letters: “Armed Conflict as a Catalyst for Increasing Flood Risk.”
The article is Open Access through the following link: https://doi.org/10.1088/1748-9326/ad6fb6
In this article, we introduce socio-hydrological frameworks to explore how armed conflict can amplify flood risks. Our framework identifies critical pathways through which conflict heightens vulnerability to floods, including infrastructure damage, population displacement, and weakened governance.
We applied this framework to the ongoing conflict in Sudan, where the outbreak of violence in Khartoum in 2023 has led to severe disruptions. The conflict has displaced millions, crippled essential infrastructure, and left the population more vulnerable to natural disasters like floods. Our study emphasizes the need for integrated strategies to address both conflict and disaster preparedness.
